Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 11, 2026
Your privacy is our priority.
Chronoid is designed with privacy at its core. Your activity history is stored on your Mac. Optional online features share data only when you use them, as described below.
Our Privacy Commitment
Chronoid is a local-first application that respects your privacy. Local tracking and reporting run on your Mac. If you enable AI services or connectors, requested data is shared with those services.
Data Collection
Local Tracking by Default
Local tracking does not require uploading your activity history. Optional features are described separately below:
- No account required for local tracking
- Activity history stored on your Mac
- Reports generated from your local database
- Optional diagnostics controlled in settings
- AI data sharing controlled by the connections you enable
Error Monitoring and Crash Reporting
Starting from version 1.0.42, Chronoid includes optional Sentry integration for error monitoring and crash reporting to improve app stability. This feature is disabled by default and requires your explicit consent to enable:
- Opt-in only: Sentry analytics is turned off by default and must be manually enabled in app settings
- What we collect: Error logs, crash reports, and performance metrics when the app encounters issues (only if enabled)
- Third-party service: This data is processed by Sentry.io, please refer to Sentry's Privacy Policy for their data handling practices
This error monitoring is completely optional and only activated when you choose to enable it in the application settings. No personal or tracking data is ever included in these reports.
Website Analytics
This website uses analytics tools to help us understand how visitors use our site and improve the website experience:
- Website only: Analytics are only collected on this landing page website, not in the Chronoid app itself
- What we collect: Page views, user interactions, referrers, browser and device information, and limited website session data. This collection is limited to the website and is not used inside the Chronoid desktop app.
- No third parties: Our website analytics is self-hosted on our own infrastructure and is cookieless. It sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses, and this data is not shared with third-party analytics providers.
Website analytics are separate from activity tracking in Chronoid and from optional diagnostics and AI connections.
Local Data Storage
Your activity database and local reports are stored on your Mac. Data shared through optional online features is also processed by the services you use:
- Time tracking data: Saved in a local SQLite database
- Application preferences: Stored in your system preferences
- Complete control: You control your local activity database
- Easy deletion: Contact support for help removing local application data and backups
Optional AI Connectors and ChatGPT
Enabling an AI connector lets your chosen AI service request information from Chronoid. Results may include app names, window or document titles, website URLs, project names, durations and billing information. Your activity database remains on your Mac. Remote connections forward requests and results through Chronoid's Cloudflare relay; the relay does not store activity history.
The ChatGPT connection grants read access only. The relay stores authorization records, including hashed credentials, a hashed device identifier, expiry times and temporary sign-in information. It uses an essential browser cookie to complete connection approval. Read the ChatGPT connection privacy policy for retention periods, infrastructure processing and deletion details.
Revoke a connection in ChatGPT to remove its active authorization. Disabling AI connectors in Chronoid stops access while disabled; regenerating the connector URL disconnects existing connectors. These actions do not delete content already shared with your AI provider. That content remains subject to the provider's policies and account controls. See connection support for setup and troubleshooting.
Built-in AI Chat Feature
When using the built-in AI chat feature with your own cloud-service API key:
- Your messages are sent directly to your chosen AI service provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
- Chronoid does not store, log, or have access to your chat conversations
- The communication happens directly between your device and the AI service
- You use your own API keys, maintaining full control over your AI service relationship
Please refer to your AI service provider's privacy policy for their data handling practices
Automatic Updates
Chronoid uses Sparkle framework for automatic updates:
- Update checks only verify the latest version number
- No personal information is transmitted during update checks
- Updates can be disabled in application preferences
Permissions
Chronoid requires certain system permissions to function:
- Accessibility: To detect active applications and window titles
- Launch at Login: Optional permission for automatic startup
These permissions are used solely for the app's time tracking functionality. The activity database stays on your device; optional AI features can share requested activity data when you enable and use them.
Your Rights
You control your local activity database. Copies shared with external services are subject to their retention settings and policies:
